Darn Platelets

Today was my first day OFF from going to the clinic! My insurance approved me to get a home supply of the neupogen shot I have to take every day, so the doctor said I can come in every other day now. That was awesome news. Yesterday at the clinic was quite interesting. All was well until I started a platelet transfusion! It’s not uncommon to get a reaction during blood transfusions, I’ve even had them in the past, but this time I had a really bad one. A few minutes into the transfusion I started feeling really sick, started getting extremely hot and sweaty, and my stomach started cramping up. I also got a bad rash everywhere! So they immediately stopped the platelets and gave me Benadryl via IV (which put me right to sleep) and hydrocortisone. The hot flashes (or whatever it was) and the stomach cramping went away pretty quickly after they stopped the transfusion, but the rash took a while. They even gave me more Benadryl to help with the rash. It was a little scary, but I am just fine now! From now on they are going to give me Benadryl before every transfusion to hopefully avoid that happening again.

I am so thankful to say that we have reached our $5,000 goal on my Go Fund Me page!! We are so grateful to those who have donated. When people go through these medical nightmares, the expenses are overwhelming and seem to never end. We are so appreciative for the support from friends, family and even those we don’t know. Even though $5,000 was the goal, my medical expenses will far exceed that so please keep spreading the word! Thank you as always for the continued support and prayers!
